P5/6 Visit Tesco's

30th Nov 2017

Primary 5 and 6 spent a lovely morning in our local Tesco store.  Our focus was on healthy eating to fit in with our World Around Us topic on 'The Body'.  We looked at the wide variety of fruits and vegetables and had a chance to taste quite a few.

We talked about 'good' sugars and 'bad' sugars and the types of food we would find each of these in.  We discovered that an adult should only eat the equivalent of 7 sugars lumps a day, and that one slice of chocolate cake could contain that amount of sugar.  We used a sugar calculating app to scan some foods and find how much sugar they contained - this was really eye opening.

We finished our tour by looking at the eat well plate.  We identified each food group, the number of daily portions we should consume from each group and we discussed the benefits each food group had for our bodies.

It was really was a very informative trip, make sure to ask your child to tell you all about it.
