P4 and P5 have been carrying out a growing experiment in their classroom. We planted a runner bean seed in 5 different conditions to see if we could find out what a plant needs to grow.
Pot 1 had soil, water and light,
Pot 2 had soil and water but no light,
Pot 3 had water and light, but no soil,
Pot 4 had soil and light but no water and
Pot 5 had cotton wool instead of soil.
We had great fun watching our plants grow and recording their progress. Today we finished off our experiment. We discovered that the plant which had soil, water and light was the only plant which grew to be tall and healthy. The one with no water, didn't grow at all, while the plant with no light, the one with no soil and the plant which had cotton wool grew a bit, but are now starting to shrivel and die as their reserves of food are running out.
We each also planted our own seed and kept a diary of their progress.
